I Have Decided . . .
This Sunday morning we have the privilege of celebrating baptism as a community. Baptism Sundays are always a time of rejoicing in the lives of those within our church family who have dedicated themselves to Christ and wish to publicly proclaim their desire to follow Him. Behind every person being baptized this Sunday, there is a story—stories of God’s faithfulness to each individual through times of challenge or pain. Stories of God’s love being poured out into hurting hearts. These stories serve as reminders of the power of the resurrection life we have in the here and now that can only be offered through Jesus. In advance of Sunday, let’s rejoice with Kimberly’s story . . .
I was agnostic growing up, but always had Christian friends who were great people. After college, I got to know a couple Christian co-workers and eventually asked if I could come to church with one of them. They invited me to EvFree and I’ve been coming ever since. As I learned more about the Christian faith, I still wrestled with the idea of God. A few months ago, my husband sent me an article by an atheist-turned-Christian that addressed logical reasons to believe in God, which, as an engineer, clicked for me. I continued to read more and learn more after that. In April, I opened the Bible one night to the Book of John. When I got to John 10—the passage where the Jews ask Jesus “if you are the Messiah, tell us plainly” and Jesus responded, “I have told you, but you do not believe”—it just hit me. I could no longer deny that it all now made sense, so I accepted Jesus. I want to be baptized in order to declare my trust in Jesus and serve as a reminder of my faith . . .
What joy is found in changed lives! Sunday’s baptism services are open to all. We welcome those who did not get a chance to sign-up but wish to be baptized as an act of faith and obedience. Come Sunday and let’s celebrate with those who have decided to follow Jesus!
