The Proverbial Life
The word “proverbial” means both “Something spoken of in a proverb” and also, “Something commonly spoken of; traditional, well-known, or legendary.”
We are all searching for the proverbial life. That beautiful life that everyone’s always talking about. The life that we all know is out there but seems so difficult to attain. A life of peace, and purpose, and joy. A LEGENDARY life.
Thankfully, the Bible has much to say about living the perfect life. In fact, there are whole books (like the book of Proverbs) that are written to help us live effectively in light of what we know. The proverbial word for this is wisdom.
In a culture where information on every conceivable topic is available in an instant on the internet, we all recognize that simply knowing facts does not always impact the way we live or the choices we make. Many times there seems to be a lack of connection between what we know and what we do. This is where wisdom comes in!
This summer at EvFree we will be entering into a sermon series called “The Proverbial Life” where we will look at what the scriptures say about wisdom, where to find it, and the difference it can make in our lives. Obviously there are many situations that the Bible speaks directly to with clear instructions or guidelines, but the value of wisdom is that it helps us discern how to live a life that pleases God even in the situations where no clear directive is given. And the best part is, that this effective life is the life that God wants for us even more than we want it for ourselves.
I hope that you will join us for this study, and that you will invite those you know who may be on the lookout for the proverbial life. There’s no better place for us to look for a legendary life, than to the heart of our legendary Creator!
