| In this
war-ravaged central African nation, resettlement of traumatized families,
reconstruction of crucial infrastructure and economic empowerment
are the primary objectives of World Relief and church partners like
FEFC.
North Kivu province, once a major breadbasket for the rest of the
Congo, has suffered heavily since the outbreak of inter-ethnic conflict
in 1993 when thousands of families were forced to flee their homes.
The agricultural cycle—upon which 85% of the region’s
population depends—has been repeatedly disrupted, leading
to widespread food shortages. Over the past two years, World Relief
and church partners have distributed resettlement kits to 16,000
families, providing seeds, hoes and essential household items.
Through World Relief’s focus on new micro-enterprise programs,
our church hopes now to empower Congolese families to start modest
income-generating enterprises. There are no immediate plans to send
a short-term team to Congo, but please join us in praying for broad-reaching
help and effect of the national workers acting in Jesus’ Name.
