World Relief – Church Empowerment

Child Survival
Child Survival

By dialoguing and casting vision with church pastors and lay leaders, World Relief has gained the trust of pastors and congregations from virtually all Christian denominations in the Great Lakes Region of Africa. Through Vision Workshops, the Church Mobilization team has catalyzed the training of hundreds of pastors and thousands of lay leaders on the Biblical mandate for the Church to care for the poor and suffering.

World Relief invites churches to join forces in pursuit of that commission, currently partnering with thousands of indigenous churches.  The Church Mobilization team has thereby laid a foundation for WRR programs, working together with communities to identify needs, mobilizing local volunteers and resources, and implementing peace and reconciliation trainings.  As the body of Christ is united for a common vision, God is using the Church in new and powerful ways.

Through partnership with World Relief, FEFC and other U.S. church partners, pastors are also growing in their understanding and practice of discipleship and leadership.  This includes pastoral training, focusing on the character and calling of a pastor, spiritual fruits, spiritual gifts, and spiritual warfare  Pastors have of many denominations have participated enthusiastically in this training and relationships have been strengthened among the local churches.
Current focus is now to develop Church Empowerment Zones which are groups of churches/pastors in geographic areas that work together to reach out in support of their communities.  World Relief is able to use these groups to increase training/education and work is underway to link these indigenous groups of churches with church in the United States for additional support and relationship development.
