International Friendship Council

What is the International Friendship Council?

The IFC is a group of community volunteers of many ages and walks of life. We are singles, couples, families with children, and retired people. We welcome international students from local college campuses as they settle into our cities and neighborhoods, assisting them as they adapt to American culture.

What is the relationship between our church and the IFC?

First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton is a member of the IFC which allows us to join college campuses in welcoming and befriending their new students. We also commit to the following guidelines for our friendships.

Unconditional Friendship – Our friendship is not dependent on the student's religious or personal beliefs but is unconditional.

Truth in Advertising – We make sure to always let students know exactly what they will be attending when we give an invitation. If there will be any Bible teaching or religious activities, we let them know so they can decide whether they want to come. Either way, they know they can count on our friendship.

What does IFC do?

Three-Day Welcome Visit – A warm welcome along with a room, meals, and transportation are offered to students as they first arrive in our country. Host families provide a first touch to students as they get settled in our culture. Students typically stay with host families for several days.

Friendship Program (no housing required) – Students sign up to get an American friend who will contact them weekly (by phone or email) and spend time with them about once a month enjoying a meal in an American home, a picnic, a shopping trip, celebration of a holiday, gardening, sports, or whatever you both enjoy! Americans provide encouragement and support while international students bring a clearer understanding of their home countries and ways of life to us. Everyone benefits from these friendships!

Fall & Spring Parties – We kickoff each semester with fun parties that allow everyone to connect together in a large group.

Practical Help – We assist students in finding furniture, bicycles, and other items they need. We provide transportation to various events and even offer a city tour!
